I really enjoyed this conversation with meditation teacher Roger Thisdell. We discuss the manner in which true insights into no-self and the development of phenomenological speed and clarity could effect sports performance and performance generally. We also discuss flow states and how a deep meditative practice may help the athlete drop the ego and enter into flow - and the difference between a flow state and true no-self/centerlessness. Finally, we discuss mental health and performance and how some of our common existential assumptions about the solidity of self and the world could possibly be at the root of suffering when it comes to competition and high pressure performance.
